Dardanup Primary School has a vibrant, busy library with a designated library resource teacher. The library has a large collection of fiction and non-fiction resources chosen to meet the needs of the Australian Curriculum. We have a wide variety of books to support the Accelerated Reader program, in which students from years 2-6 participate. All students have a timetabled period for library borrowing and are also encouraged to borrow independently, before and after school. The library is also open at lunch time for reading, games and Accelerated Reader quizzes.
Book week is a highlight of the library calendar. Our students celebrate quality Australian literature recommended by the Children’s Book Council. Book Week is a wonderful time for our school to encourage a love for reading. It’s a great occasion to dress up, hold book parades, talk about books and celebrate Australian authors and illustrators.
The library also promotes reading through the Scholastic Book Club, which allows students the opportunity to purchase a range of reading materials and educational games at a discounted price. Book Club is distributed twice a term by volunteers. A percentage of the sales enables the school to increase its resource collection. Our students make excellent use of this opportunity. They enjoy viewing the catalogue, choosing books that interest them and reading for pleasure.
